Legal & Ethics
The principles, policies, and practices that govern The Minecraft Registry
Legal & Ethical Framework
The Minecraft Registry (TMR) is a research and analytics platform designed to index publicly reachable Minecraft servers in a responsible and ethical manner. All data presented by TMR is collected from publicly accessible network endpoints and is intended solely for research, analysis, and educational purposes.
Governance & Operation
Policies and practices that ensure responsible operation
Ownership & Development
This tool was designed, programmed, developed, maintained, operated, and is solely owned by mar. All crawling infrastructure, data processing pipelines, and analytical systems are privately maintained and controlled by the owner to ensure compliance, reliability, and ethical operation.
Operational Control
All crawler instances and backend systems are operated and maintained solely by mar. No third-party entities are granted direct access to crawling infrastructure or raw data sources. This centralized control ensures accountability, consistent policy enforcement, and rapid response to operational or ethical concerns.
Crawling & Data Collection
Ethical principles guiding data collection practices
Non-Intrusive Collection
The crawler does not join, chat, spam, authenticate, or interact with any Minecraft server in-game. It performs only a standard Minecraft handshake over TCP port 25565. Upon successful handshake, a single status request is issued to retrieve publicly exposed server metadata.
Limited Data Scope
TMR collects only the following publicly available server information: server version, server Message of the Day (MOTD), current online player count, and maximum player capacity. No player usernames, IP addresses, chat messages, or gameplay data are collected, stored, or processed.
Responsible Data Use
All collected data is stored securely and handled responsibly. The data is used exclusively for research, analytical, and statistical purposes. TMR does not sell collected data, does not monetize individual server records, and does not facilitate targeted exploitation or abuse of any Minecraft server.
Update Policies
Conservative approaches to minimize network impact
Crawl Frequency & Prevention
Rate-LimitedThe crawler is designed to avoid unnecessary or repeated requests to the same network endpoints. IP addresses that have already been successfully crawled are not immediately re-crawled; subsequent scan attempts are skipped instantly to prevent redundant traffic.
Server Update Scheduling
ConservativeUpdates for known servers are performed conservatively and sequentially. Each server update is handled by a single crawler instance only, never in parallel. Update cycles occur at controlled intervals ranging from every 12 hours to 24 hours, ensuring minimal impact on server infrastructure while maintaining data accuracy.
Content Responsibility
Policies regarding server content and operator relations
Content Disclaimer
The Minecraft Registry (TMR) does not create, modify, or control the content presented by indexed Minecraft servers. All server metadata, including Message of the Day (MOTD), server descriptions, and related text, is provided solely by the respective server owners and operators.
Offensive Content Warning
Some publicly reachable Minecraft servers may display content that includes offensive language, profanity, or discriminatory terms. Such content reflects the choices and actions of the server operators alone. TMR does not endorse, promote, or approve of any offensive, hateful, or inappropriate material that may appear in server metadata.
Respect for Server Operators
TMR respects the autonomy and rights of Minecraft server operators. The platform is designed to observe publicly exposed information only and to avoid any behavior that could degrade performance, stability, or availability of scanned servers. Operators may contact the project owner regarding concerns, corrections, or removal requests.
Contact & Inquiries
For questions regarding data collection, ethical concerns, or removal requests, please contact the project maintainer at [email protected]. All inquiries are taken seriously and addressed promptly.
